Our Story

A tea salon built on beauty, warmth and a love of the afternoon.

Since 2016

Where it began

The Vanitea Room opened its doors in Centretown in the spring of 2016, founded by Hind Mubarak with a simple wish: to create a tea salon that felt like stepping into another world. A self-proclaimed tea salon & European-style eatery, it quickly became one of Ottawa’s most beloved spots for afternoon tea.

The room itself does half the storytelling — a wall of hand-painted blooms, antique gilt mirrors, tufted velvet and chandeliers that catch the candlelight. It is intimate, a touch theatrical, and entirely its own.

Our Kitchen

Made fresh, sourced close to home

Our afternoon high tea is built around fresh hors d’oeuvres, warm scones with jams and clotted cream, and a rotating table of petite desserts. The menu has grown over the years, but the philosophy hasn’t: buy local, cook fresh, and serve it with genuine care.

We champion Canadian makers wherever we can — from the teas in your pot to the small-batch jams on your scone.

A Proper Ceremony
